FACT SHEETS
Work package 1
Coordination and management
The main objective of this Work Package is to raise awareness about sustainable responsible mining, due diligence and ethical exploitation among the mining sector and the local communities in close proximity to mining sites.
Work package 2
Rock/explosive interaction
This Work Package (WP) will work on the preliminary stages of rock modelling and explosive characterization with clear focus on the interaction between these two elements.
Work package 3
Environmental impact and safety
The main objective of this work package is to provide mines and other raw material extracting industries using explosives with modern techniques that substantially decrease the societal disturbances and environmental foot print of their blasting work without decreasing the safety and productivity of the operations.
Work package 4
New explosive application technologies for small mineral deposits
The objectives of work package 4 in the Sustainable Low Impact Mining project are:
– Explosive development and characterization, and its use in blast design
– Techniques to reduce ammonium nitrate leaching in blasting
– Field validation
Work package 5
Rock mass characterisation software
The work package includes two main tasks:
(i) a software component for measuring muck pile properties based on aerial imagery, and (ii) a software solution for automatic blast design.
Work package 6
Upstream system validation and plant operation monitoring
The objective of this work package is to assess whether order to properly conduct the upstream/downstream the solutions developed in Working Packages 2 and 3 monitoring and validation, and to guarantee SLIM’s result in an overall operational benefit in terms of technical excellence and replicability, as well as improved plant throughput, increased product grade demonstrating its impact in the reduction of critical plant and reduced energy consumption. A KPI (Key operating indicators, such as energy consumption and Performance Indicators) approach is established in environmental footprint
Work package 7
Economic and environmental assessment
The main objectives of WP7 are:
– To assess the life-cycle sustainability of new technologies through an environmental life-cycle analysis and a socio-economic cost-benefits analysis,
– To introduce a structured innovation management process, identify business opportunities and associated relevant business models and develop exploitation strategies and associated partner and funding strategies.
Work package 8
Dissemination and communication
The aim of SLIM work package 8 is to facilitate the communication between SLIM and external related stakeholders as well as to properly disseminate the project achievements.
WP10
Public awareness, acceptance, trust and communication
The main objective of this Work Package is to raise awareness about sustainable responsible mining, due diligence and ethical exploitation among the mining sector and the local communities in close proximity to mining sites.
