VA Erzberg GmbH

VA ERZBERG GmbH is an Austria iron ore producer in the center of Austria. The mining history dates back to the year 712. Since then iron ore is produced in this region. Nowadays the mine produces around 2,8 million tonnes of ore and 8,6 million tonnes of overburden per year. The extraction of the rock is done by drilling and blasting with an explosives consumption of around 1400 t per year. Loading and hauling of the blasted material is done with large wheel loaders, a hydraulic excavator and heavy dump trucks. The total number of employees of around 230 is increasing since the last years. The location of the mine within the city of Eisenerz requires special techniques to assure low environmental impacts. Additionally the geological situation of the orebody is a challenging issue for the mining engineers and therefore selective mining processes have to be applied.

VA ERZBERG contributes to the validation phase (WP6), including the plant operation monitoring. It will make available to the project its know-how in the mining sector and its mining infrastructure.
